This trip was amazing. I am so blessed to have been able to go. I wanted to share some of my memories with y’all. Thank you for being a part of this journey.
A few things I learned on the Silver Retreat.
This company has So Much Heart.
I was blown away at how nice they treated us. From great meals, the ones at the farm week the Bomb, to fun experiences, to learning new and great things. But what stood out the most was how much heart Gary and Mary Young have for others. One way they show this is through the D. Gary Young Foundation. Here are a few of the projects that this foundation are working on right now.
- Rebuild Nepal
- Young Living Academy Ecuador
- Meastral Orphanage Croatia
- Hope for Justice
- African Hope
- Sole Hope
- Healing Faith Uganda
- Ecuador Earthquake Relief
- And recently with the Louisiana Flood Relief
You can earn more about these projects at younglivingfoudation.org
By completely covering the foundations administrative costs, Young Living ensures that 100% of the donations go directly to helping with the projects.
But it doesn’t stop there. This is not a foundation where the top people sit behind desks and tell other to go. No, Gary Young himself is out there helping and meeting the needs of those he has a heart for.
How can you help?
You shop. Amazon gives.
Did you know that the online retailer Amazon.com has a program called AmazonSmile that allows you to give The D. Gary Young, Young Living Foundation a portion of your order’s proceeds? It’s a simple and automatic way for you to support the foundation every time you shop, and it’s at no extra cost to you.
AmazonSmile is the same Amazon you know. Same products, same prices, same service. However, when you use AmazonSmile, Amazon donates 0.5 percent of your eligible purchase to the Foundation.
So, the next time you shop on Amazon, jump over to Smile.Amazon.com and select the Young Living Foundation as your designated charity. Tens of millions of products on AmazonSmile are currently eligible for donations. Just look for the AmazonSmile label, and you’re good to go!
2.Bring your family if you can
I heard a lot of people say they were glad they didn’t have their family there, myself, I wish I had mine there. Yes, your family can be a distraction and yes you will not be together the whole time, but the time you can have together will be fun.
Thursday-Arrival and Check-in
We arrived early Thursday morning so we wandered to the convention center and learned how to use the public transportation to get us from our hotel to the convention center. It was close enough to walk, but depending on the time we had to get there or how tired we were helped make our decision to use the public transportation or walk. At registered we had unlimited NingXia Red shots. How cool is that!!!!
After that we grabbed a bite to eat at a cute little Italian cafe.
We rented a car so we headed to the corporate offices and warehouses to check them out. The corporate offices were fun and pretty. Spend some time there if you can. You can also order a few oils from there is you want and if they have them in stock.
Then we rushed to the warehouse. This was crazy. The tours were all over so all we could do was stand in a very crowded room and try to order some items if we anted to wait for an hour to get them. We decided not to since we had to get back and get ready for the evening welcoming dinner. I would skip this unless you can do a tour or don’t mind waiting a LONG time in a small cramped room.
The welcome semi formal dinner was very low key. Don’t worry about feeling under dressed or over dressed. I saw people in jean shorts and then some were in VERY fancy gown. Wear what makes you feel comfortable. I kinda wish I has wore what I originally planed but it was still fun to dress up since I don’t have many occasions to do it.
The dinner was over in about 45 min and we were welcome to hang out and meet other people. However with a 3AM wake up that morning to catch my flight, I was tired and headed back to my room. I shared a room with a team mate but we were giving our own room which was plenty big enough for a family. So other then the dinner, which was short, the rest of the day was family friendly. Of course if you pay for a second person, they are welcome to eat with you. I would just let them eat at one of the may places around there to eat. Or order in some pizza!!
Friday- Farm Day
The farm day would have been so much fun with my family. Of course, take into consideration the age of your kids as well as their attention span, likes and dislikes. For my kids, the farm would have been fun. It would have been a very long day if you rode on the bus however that bring me to another point. We were discouraged from driving to the farm ourselves. Yes, it was a little bit of a drive(about 1 1/2 hrs each way) and coming home we were all tired, however the option to get there early before all the buses arrived would have been nice as well as being able to leave when we got tired would have been great.
Sorry I got off track, back to the farm day. There were so many great things for a family to do. They had a rock climbing wall, a little cowboy town you could play in, a playground, pony rides and games, paddle boats, a jousting tournament as well as the draft horse show. That’s not listing everything!! Of course your kids may not want to do SEED to SEAL tour or listen to Gary Young speak, but this is were you join your team and hang with them for a while and then meet back up with your family later. You can always just drag your family along, but that’s up to you. I know my daughter (age 9) and probably my son (age 6) would have enjoyed the Seed to Seal tour. They hear me talk about it all the time and know so much about Young Livings Seed to Seal process I think they would have liked seeing it first hand.
Saturday – Workshops and Closing Party
This would have been the day you wouldn’t get to spend much time with your family. However, depending on what hotel you are in, you may have a pool that they can hang out at. Plus there is some down time between the workshop sessions and closing party. I am not big on party atmospheres and we were all pretty tired so we didn’t stay to late. But again that is a judgment call depending on what you like. We headed back to our hotel and got some gelato from the sweet shop in out hotel.
Sunday – Travel Home
This is the main reason we rented a car, our flight didn’t leave till 8PM so we had the whole day to hang out and sight see. One of the girls on our team had been to Park City and said it was beautiful, so we went and checked it out. We stopped at the Olympic training Center and were fortunate enough to get to watch some of the Olympians training. This is a great place to check out!!
Next we headed to the little main street of Park City and walked the street. We had lunch at a great restaurant and grabbed some coffee as well before driving on to explore more. The scenery was breath taking with all the trees changing color for fall. It was a wonderful relaxing day.
We then headed back down to Salt Lake City and checked out the Mormon Temple. It was Sunday so we could see much but it is massive. We had a little time left so we went back to our hotel and hung out in the beautiful lobby for a while before heading to the airport. As you can tell, this day would have been totally family friendly too.
We live close enough that we could have driven there in a very long one day trip. I think if we could have gotten cheap airfare for our family I would have gone that route. However, if you can drive or want to make it an extended vacation there, I think that would be fun. I am in love with the area and can’t wait to go back.
3. Bring an Extra Bag for all the Goodies you get.
I didn’t think I would need an extra bag but I was wrong. We did get an amazing backpack from Young Living but if you are planning on getting any of the discount items at the farm, you will need an extra bag. I was able to get it all in the bags I bought as well as my VERY packed small suitcase but it was tight.
4. Enjoy the time and make new friends
This was my first time ever leaving my kids overnight. I am thankful that my hubby was able to be off from work and be with them, but it was still hard for all of us. The first day they face chatted with me a lot and cried. I looked at going home after the workshops on Saturday, which would have been fine, but glad I stayed. They were doing better the 2nd day and by the 3rd it seemed they were doing pretty good because they knew I’d be home the next day. I am so thankful I had the support of my friends during those sad moments. I made some amazing new friends on this trip as well and reignited some old friendships which was awesome. The friendships I have made because of Young Living are priceless.
5. IT’S FREE!!!!!!!!
Of course there will be things that you would do different or would change but, remember this is a FREE gift to you from Young Living. They don’t have to do this for us, but remember #1 they have a big heart and want to do this for you. They put lots of time and money into these retreats and try to give us the best experience they can. No the Welcome dinner party was not a big fancy event, but it was so thoughtful. I feel bad because I found myself complaining from time to time and now looking back I feel horrible for allowing myself to do that. This retreat was such a blessing and I am so grateful that I got to go on it.
Of course this may change from year to year but at least this was my experience and what I learned. Please comment below if you have been to a retreat and have any tips or want to share your trip. I’d love to hear other peoples stories.
